Following months of collaboration and engagement to create a masterplan for the Ladyfield estate in Dumfries, The Crichton Trust and Collective Architecture, are this month being recognised through various channels for their collective efforts in creating, what has been described as, an exemplar masterplan and a collaborative and engaging design development process, exemplifying the newly adopted Scottish Government National Planning Framework 4.
It takes a holistic and aspirational approach to placemaking and sets out a vision for a sustainable place planned for people and planet. It also addresses the Scottish Government’s objectives to create nature-focused, sustainable communities and affordable housing.
COUNCIL TO CONSIDER NEXT STEPS FOR LADYFIELD
June is turning out to be a milestone month for The Ladyfield Project; with Dumfries and Galloway Council set to consider the proposed masterplan at the Economy and Resources Committee on the 8th June. The masterplan and technical reports have been publicly available since February 2023. This combined with extensive community consultation and feedback, should enable decision-makers to make a fully informed and balanced decision about the future of the site.
FINALISTS IN SCOTTISH DESIGN AWARDS 2023
There is also a double cause for celebration for the project team this month following the recent announcement that The Ladyfield Masterplan has been shortlisted in the Scottish Design Awards 2023 for the Masterplan of the Year Award and The Crichton Trust confirmed as a finalist in the Client of the Year category. Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in Glasgow on the 29th June.
LADYFIELD MODEL ON SHOW AT RSA ANNUAL EXHIBITION
Meanwhile, the Ladyfield Masterplan is also being showcased at the 197th RSA Annual Exhibition in Edinburgh from the 6th – 11th June. This is the largest and longest-running exhibition of contemporary art in Scotland and The Ladyfield model created by Twa Dugs Design and visuals created by Maisie Tudge takes centre stage for all to see.
